Warm-Up 3

Warm-Up 3 is all about turning informal, spoken language into formal, written language. The prompt is the kind of thing a health-and-safety officer might say when he's on a site visit, but the written version of his recommendations will use different grammatical structures and different words.

Remember that you've only got FIVE sentences to produce - you don't need to write the entire report.

On demand of the Swedish Health and Safety Executive some security issues has to be sorted out. Firstly the workers environment and clothes needs to be safer. Things that have to be arranged for every single worker at the working site are worker boots with reinforced soles and toecaps, and approved safety helmets. Then, for the safety of everyone, it even has to be put up fences and safety barriers around the working area. Subsequently, before using the plants anymore they have to get served.

In Sweden it is compulsory to wear proper work boots with reinforced soles and toecaps to ensure maximum protection for the workers. At construction sites the employer has the obligation to make sure every worker wears a hardhat before entering the site. Due to the noise at the site helmets that have built-in ear muffs are required. Furthermore Sweden has strict rules about the height of fences and safety barriers. In addition, all equipment like diggers and dumper trucks need to be checked by an authorized mechanic and have a valid test certification.

The inspection of Swedish Health and Safety Executive dicovered some following facts and they need to be sorted out. The workers wear trainers which is not an appropriate footwear in construction site therefore they need to be changed to boots with reinforced soles and toecaps. According to the regulations of noise and safety, the workers have to wear ear protectors and the safety helmets are compulsory. The test certificate licenses of three diggers and a dumper are expired and they need to be tested and examined by mechanic as soon as possible otherwise they can not be used for work. Moreover, the fences and safety barriers have to be revised again as they have to be of the proper high in every construction above the ground level.

According to a visit from the Swedish Health and Safety Executive, the following action has to be taken at the Exhibition Centre in Kalmar, Sweden, otherwise there is a major risk for the building site being closed down.

Referring to Swedish regulations the workers have to wear special work boots (with reinforced soles and toecaps) and furthermore, hardhats are compulsory. The workers should also wear ear protectors and the suggestion from the authority is that the workers wear helmets with built-in protection for their ears.
The fences and safety barriers have to be inspected in order to make sure that they are in compliance with the Swedish regulations regarding height.

Moreover, some of the plant facilities need to be urgently inspected by an authorised engineer.

On the 4th of November, 2008 the Health and Safety Executive made a safety control at the Exhibition Centre in Kalmar, Sweden. The report that followed pointed out actions that have to be taken.

Fences and safety barriers is needed around every building section that is higher than ground level, this to protect workers from falling.

Three diggers and one dumper truck needs to be tested for new valid certificate and controlled by an authorized mechanic, these are not to be used before the new certificate has been issued.

All workers on site need approved safety helmets, preferably with built-in ear muffs to protect the hearing and a mask to cover the face. Workers are not allowed to wear training shoes on site; they all need proper work boots, with reinforced soles and toecaps.

In order to follow the Swedish regulations regarding construction sites some changes has to be made.

To start with, our builders are in need of proper equipment, such as reinforced work boots and safety helmets with built-in ear muffs and a cover for the face.

By investing in new fences and barriers we are raising the level of safety on the construction site which is needed above ground level.

Our diggers and dumper trucks are in need of regularly updated certificates as we today are not allowed to use them.

The following material measures has to be done in order to keep the constructions up and going.

“If you don't get these problems sorted out, we'll have to close you down.”
According to Swedish law, the building site can be closed down if certain issues are not attended to.

“Look, I don't know much about conditions in China, but here in Sweden we've got rules and regs you have to follow.”
The inspector emphasized that in order to build on Swedish land it is crucial that the Swedish law and regulations are followed.

“We've got very strict rules about fences and safety barriers here too.”
An important element which is required to keep the building site open is to have an accurate survey of the scaffolds.

“I've found three diggers and a dumper truck whose test certificates have run out.”
Three diggers and a dumper truck are without valid certificates and this must immediately be overlooked.

“Hardhats aren't optional workwear here - they're compulsory.”
The workers’ environment with focus on clothing and safety equipment has got a high priority to rectify.

Safety regulations are very important in Sweden. According to the Health and Safety Inspector some changes needs to be done.

Workers need to wear special boots that have reinforced soles and toecaps.
An approved safety helmet is compulsory before entering the site.
Due to the level of noise, it is highly recommended to use helmets that have built-in ear muffs. Working above ground level is dangerous. Sweden has strict rules about fences and safety barriers that need to be followed, being able to maximize the safety for the workers.
Three of the diggers used on the working site have expired certificate licenses, therefore they need to be tested and examined by mechanics before usage.

Sweden has different strict regulations concerning the working sites which are compulsory for any companies to obey. Firstly, it is the regulation for any worker on working sites to wear specially designed working boots with reinforced soles and toecaps in case of being hurt accidentally, however, our workers only have normal shoes to wear. Secondly, workers must wear helmets and ear protectors whenever they are on working sites , and they should not be permitted to enter the site without these gears. Thirdly, the fences and safety barriers are compulsory when we are working above ground level in order to keep workers from falling to the ground. Last but not least, we must make sure that our equipment be tested regularly, however, the certificates of some of our equipment have expired and we must have them tested before using them again.

For satisfying the Swedish rules in construction business, firstly, proper work boots with soles and toecaps should be provided to workers. Secondly, hardhats have to be prepared to workers for safety. Thirdly, wearing ear protectors is one of the most essential parts of equipment. Fourthly, fences and safety barriers ought to be furnished to proper height. And finally, all plants should be inspected by authorized mechanic before they are used.

The Swedish business rules should be satisfied with your working conditions on the building site. According to the Safety and Health inspector, the following rules are under perfect discipline. First of all, safety equipments have to be provided to all workers in the building such as work boots, hardhats and wearing ear protectors. Next, fences and safety barriers ought to be furnished to proper height for preventing unexpected accidents. Finally, all plants should be inspected by authorized mechanic before they are used.

At the request of the Swedish Health and Safety Executive, a number of security measures must be taken.

Firstly, it is essential to ensure that construction workers use the right kind of work boots with reinforced soles and toecaps.

Another important security measure is that all who work at- or visit the construction area wears protective helmets.

Construction sites are normally noisy places, therefore it is compulsory that every person at the building site use helmets with built-in ear muffs to prevent hearing damages.

There must also be fences and safety barriers of the proper height everywhere where there is construction work above ground level.

Test certificates of three diggers and a dumper truck have expired and they therefore can not be used until they have valid certificates and are checked by an authorised mechanic.

The rule for safety of Sweden is rather different from that of Chinese. The Inspector required for us to follow the rule of them by changing inappropriate working conditions.

Firstly, the proper working clothes are needed. Workers are exposed to a dangerous circumstance without proper protective materials. It can cause more severe injuries even from small mistakes. Moreover, hardhats must be compulsorily worn. We mustn’t let anyone on the site without an approved safety helmet.

Although the noise level of the working space is normal, but the inspector required that the workers wear the ear protectors. The helmets having built-in ear muffs and a mesh to cover the face are recommended.
And also, the fences and safety barriers of the proper height are needed to let people know about possible dangers. Those must be set up everywhere we start building above ground level.

Last but not least, there are three diggers and a dumper truck whose test certificates have run out. We have to stop using those right now until they have been tested. And then, we ought to take them checked on suspicious leaks in the hydraulic systems by an authorized mechanics

Principles you must follow as a contractors working in Sweden!
- No Hardhats, Safety helmets only.
- Only vehicles with test certificate can be used.
- Authorized workboots with reinforced soles and toecaps must be used
The rules must be follow, or else we'll have to close you down

You must follow the Swedish laws and regulations, if not your business will be discontinued within a short period of time.

To diminish the risk of foot injuries, boots with reinforced soles and toecaps are recommended.

It is strictly prohibited to enter the worksite without a safety helmet as protection.

A way to decrease hearing impairments and eye injuries are to supply the employees with safety helmets with built-in face and ear protection.

Diggers and bumper trucks need to have valid test certificates, without certificates the vehicles are not allowed to be put to use.

According to the Swedish law companies which are doing construction work in Sweden should follow rules oblige in the country.
Building workers are required to wear special work boots and approved safety helmets.
Since the noise level can exceeded its admissible level construction workers should be equipped in an ear and face protection such as helmets with built-in ear muffs and face-covering meshes.
Safety barriers and fences should be placed everywhere the staff construction works above ground level.
The companies equipment such as trucks or diggers are required to be certified by an authorised Vehicle Service Station.

In order to comply with the Swedish Health and Safety regulations, all personnel must wear safety helmets when they are present on the building site.

To further prevent accidents and bodily harm, work boots with reinforced soles and toecaps must be worn at all times.

With regards to the noise level, it is within the margin for hearing damages, but we recommend for the comfort of your personnel to be issued with at least the standard ear muffs.

In addition to safety precautions for personnel we find that the lack of fences and safety barriers is a potential safety hazard and needs to be rectified without delay.

The most pressing issue is the test certificates for your diggers and dumper which have expired and requires immediate attention.

We do not endorse your current way to work, to move on with this project you have to follow the Swedish rules.

We get involved to ensure the safest possible work environment; inside the working area you should wear hardhats that also protects ears and the face.

While working with heavy materials it is very important to invest in proper work boots.

We beg you to update the certificates of the diggers and also have them checked by a mechanic before using them again.

As the last information, you have to comply with the specified requirement to complete the working condition, when you start building above ground level you must use fences and safety barriers.

On 9th November 2008 The Swedish Health and Safety Executive visited our construction site in Kalmar, Sweden, with demands to increase the level of safety on the site to follow Swedish law.

Firstly, we need to provide all the employees with proper work boots
with enhanced soles and toecaps.

Secondly, according to Swedish legislation an appropriate helmet must be worn by all workers on the construction site at all time preferably with built-in ear muffs and a mesh to cover the face.

Thirdly, we have to make sure that there are satisfying fences and safety barriers when we start to build above ground level in order to prevent injuries and accidents.

Finally, the test certificates for our diggers and dumper trucks have expired and must be prolonged before we can start using them again; they also need to be checked by an authorised mechanic since they seem to leak oil.

On demand of the Swedish Health and Safety authority there are a number of security issues that have to be adjusted to avoid having the construction site closed down.
Firstly, approved safety helmets are mandatory for workers as well as visitors at all times. It is also recommended that the helmets have built-in ear protection, such as ear muffs, to protect against noise.
Secondly, fences and safety barriers must be raised at all places where construction work is being undertaken above ground level to avoid dangerous falls.
Finally, all excavators and dumper trucks need regular mechanical maintenance and must have valid certificates to be used on the site.

According to The Swedish Health and Safety Executive we need to do some changes when in comes to security issues for the workers.

We have to provide our workers a safe environment to work in therefore I recommend you to have proper work boots with reinforced soles and toecaps just to avoid possible damages.

It is really important to insure that every worker uses safety helmet with built-in ear muffs when working on the site- in fact it is compulsory.

Furthermore there are strict rules about fences and safety barriers on the site -so for the workers safety it is vital to have fences and safety barriers of the proper height.

As last information you have to get your diggers and dumper truck checked- you can’t use them unless they have been checked and have a valid certificate.

I do not have knowledge about the work conditions in China, but in Sweden there are rules and regulations to follow and if you do not do something about the following recommendations we are sorry to inform you that we have to close the construction area down.

In Sweden safety helmets for building workers are compulsory so you can not let anyone enter the site unless the are wearing one.

I noticed that all the workers are wearing trainers. Considering all the boards with nails in lying all over the place and the heavy objects the workers are lifting and therefore risking to drop down on their feet, there is an impending risk someone hurting themselves. They need proper work boots with reinforced soles and toecaps.

The noise level on site is too high to not use ear protectors, but during my inspection I hardly saw anyone using them. I recommend you to provide your workers with safety helmet with built-in ear muffs and mesh to cover their faces.

I also noticed that three of your diggers and one dumper truck had expired test certificates, and therefore you can not use them until they have been tested and approved at the test station. I am certain that they can offer you an emergency appointment in the next few days.

Dear Senior Exeuctive Management

This is to inform you that the start of buidling the first Chinese exhibition centre is well under way.

We were however asked by the Health and Safety Executive of the municipal of Kalmar to take in consideration safer working conditions for our employees on the building site due to the regulation in Sweden. Hereby is the reports on what kind of actions we had to take in this matter.

First of all we provided our employees with proper shoes, with hard soles and on-top protection for the feets. Then we ordered safety helmets to all of hem, with faceshields for protection of the head and the face, including earmuffs for protection of the hearing. We were also requested to arranged safety barriers around the working areas to avoid accidents caused by falls. Finally there was a need for a renewal of the certification for three of the excavators and for one of the lorries. Before taking them in use again a functinal service and test were made. The extra cost were taken from the account for remaning cost for material and will only have a minor impact on the quarterly financial report.Åsa Wallberg

We have been informed by the Swedish Health and Safety Department regarding safety regulations on building sites.

It is of utmost importance that we comply or the site will have to be closed down.

All workers and visitors have to wear safety equipment, i.e. boots with reinforced soles and toecaps, hardhats and ear muffs.

Fences and safety barriers have to be installed when building above ground level.

All vehicles used must have been approved by the Swedish Motor Vehicle Inspection.

As a result from the Health and Safety Executive´s inspection on the 7th November, it is of great importance to deal with the regulations concerning the working conditions on our site. The Health and Safety Executive has now turned the case into a serious matter and if we do not take any course of action the company will close down.

In order to prevent accidents on the building site it is compulsory for the workers to wear safety helmets and boots with reinforced soles and toecaps. It is also a strict rule to provide the site with safety barriers and fences as there is an accidental risk working above ground. Finally we have a driving ban on our plants, and before we have the authority to bring them back to service again we need to get valid test certificates.

The Swedish Health and Safety Executive require that the construction site follows Swedish regulations; several improvements must therefore be made.

Workers must have boots with reinforced soles and toecaps, trainers are not suitable for construction sites.

Approved safety helmets are required at all time. Hardhats are not acceptable.

Ear-muffs and mesh to cover the face should be more accessible for workers at this noise level, and for these working conditions.

Security for workers and civilians are vital, where building above ground level occur, security barriers and fences are required in proper height.

The Swedish regulation for the labour conditions during building operations seems to be very strict and different to those our company is familiar with.

It is essential for building workers the use of special and appropriate work boots in order to avoid the risk of accidents and other inconvenience that can be present in a building environment.

As another safety measure is compulsory for the company to provide workers with special approved safety helmets and to ensure that every employee use it during working activities, its recommended the use of helmets with incorporated ears muffs and a protector for the face.

Fences and safety barriers are also required to guarantee the safety of workers when working in above ground level.

Finally is indispensable to renew the test certificates of the vehicles we are employing in the construction, therefore we are forced to stop using them until they are inspected and authorised.

Report to senior management.
Firstly, the workers must be provided with proper work boots, with reinforced soles and toecaps to protect foots from boards with nails and drop of heavy sacks of cement.
Secondly, hardhats are required for all workers.
Then ear protectors must be distributed.
Subsequently fences and safety barriers of the proper height have to be placed everywhere we start building above ground level to avoid falling of workers.

Finally three diggers and a dumper truck must be stopped in using until they've been obtained test certificates.
