Warm-Up 1

This is the post to which you add your Warm-Up 1 task as a Comment (i.e. click on the Comment button below). When you do that, don't forget to write your name on the post! You'd be amazed how much detective work I sometimes have to do!

Warm-Up 1 asks you to write a personal presentation for a web site. This is a general message that goes out to everyone who visits the web site of the new company you've just got a job with. I.e. it needs to be informative, but a bit general - and a good piece of advertising for your new employer. In other words, you need to show how smart your new employer is for hiring you!

You'll find a couple of useful links on the Warm-Up 1 page: one from the University of Cambridge with some general advice, and an example of personal presentations from the Ericsson company.

When the Warm-Ups have all been marked and sent back (by me, David), I'll post a general comment in a post on this blog, with advice for everyone about Send-In Task 1.

Malin Hellman (first appointed 2008)

Business Manager of Västervik Experience

Born 1979, Master of Science in Business and Economics, Stockholm School of Economics, Sweden.

I have always been known as an entrepreneur and am constantly seeking new opportunities to explore and develop.
During my years of study I established the non-profit student-cooperation Project China to build a network of contacts and relationships between Sweden and China.
To further develop my interest in foreign cultures, I decided to move abroad after my graduation. A six-month internship at the European head office of a management consultant firm in London assisted my passion for languages and provided me with insight in the organisational structures and planning procedures of a number of companies from a variety of industries.
I thereafter worked for four years as a Business Planner with specific focus on South-East Asia for Finnair.
After taking a break for half a year in order to study cross-cultural management at Högskolan i Kalmar, I joined Västervik Experience in July 2008.

My professional background, genuine interest in the surrounding world and “everything is possible”-attitude bring unique skills to the team and will be important assets when the company initiates its work following the Chinese investment in the region. I am very excited about being a part of the development of Västervik Experience.

Karima Walldius
Business Manager of Västervik Experience,
Education: Bachelor of International Business in Hotel and Tourism Management, Switzerland

Being a native from Småland, my first job was as a receptionist in Astrid Lindgren's World (93-94). There, I realized that working with tourists was really what I wanted. This, in addition to my big interest in languages and travel, made me decide to study Hotel and Tourism Management (94-97). After the studies I first became Guest Relations Officer then Assistant of Sales and Marketing at Purple Mountain, Shanghai (97-2004). Following the birth of my daughter, I returned to Sweden and settled in Västervik (2005). Here, I combined motherhood with studies at IHM Business School, to expand my knowledge in leadership and marketing. I joined Västervik Experience 2008.

My years in Asia gave my a lot of experience. I learned to speak Chinese and I worked in an international environment with persons from several countries with many different cultures. This has made me understand other people's ways of thinking and communicating. These skills should prove very important in business and interrelations, especially considering the Chinese investments in Kalmar. I look forward to leading Västervik Experience into a bright future.

Name: Carola Holm
Born 1981

Position: Business Manager of the Västervik Experience

Education: Bachelor of Arts in Applied Theatre, Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia
Bachelor of Tourism and Business Economics, University of Kalmar, Sweden

After spending a couple of years in Australia, receiving a bachelor degree in arts, it was finally time to move back to Sweden. This time Kalmar got to be my location and soon I was about to start studying again at the University of Kalmar. Three years later I received a bachelor degree in tourism and business economics which conducted me to be a part of the management at First Hotel Witt.

The tourism industry is facing a changeable consumption process where involved actors take part of the new movement of creating experiences. Actors within the tourism industry create experiences together as they invest time and money into it and finally businesses and organisations will manufacture and deliver it. My main task as the Business Manager of the Västervik Experience is therefore to bring together actors within the tourism industry in the county of Kalmar. The key to success among the county will be found in this collaboration and the integrated relationships created.

Education:
Master of Science in Economics, School of business Economics and Law at University of Gothenburg.

Work Experience:
During my years as a student I have had the great opportunity to not just study at the University of Gothenburg but also study and work abroad. After one rewarding semester in Shanghai, China studying business and Mandarin, I could not put China behind me. This lead to one more year in Shanghai working as an assistant to a project manager as well as further studies in the Mandarin language.

After I had earned my Masters degree in 2006 I started my professional life at Gothenburg Convention Center as a project manager planning conferences and congresses, specializing in the Asian market. After two years I felt that I wanted to develop further and get new challenges in another environment, and that lead to an application for the business manager position here at Påryd Projektering.

With my experiences in the Chinese language and culture I hope that I can contribute to strengthen Påryd Projektering and all members of staff. In the same time this gives me the great opportunity to develop as a person with the new work assignments and with my new colleagues.

I was born in Gothenburg 1973 and graduated from Gothenburg´s School of Econmics and Business Administration in 1995. After that I worked for a couple of years at Gothenburg´s Tourist Centre as a Project Leader with the aim to get foreign tourists to have Gothenburg as their first choice when visiting Sweden. In 1999 I decided to explore the world and travelled around it for six months. After my journey I worked at Axsjö Travel Agency in Axsjö, a small village located in the northern part of Sweden.
I am now looking forward to my new challenge as a Project Leader at the Västervik´s Experience, where my ambition is to turn the area around Västervik to the tourist-magnet in Sweden. Name: KIM JEONGEUN

Position: Financial Planner of the the Västervik Experience

Educational Background:
Born 1986, B.A Degree in Economics, Kyung Hee University, Korea
Business administration, Baltic business school in University of Kalmar, Sweden

Principal Experience and other information

Based on my reminder, ‘Impossible is nothing’, I have tried to encourage me to go ahead. As freshman in university, I was a member of GIS (Geography Information System) institute. Because its task is to search data and locate buildings to the optimal place, I read many article and papers. And, as volunteer work, I was participated to 2007 Terry Fox Run in Korea. At that time, I distribute tickets and manage the finance of the event as well as cleaning the surrounding. Also, through JA Economic Volunteer Group, I had a good opportunity to be economy teacher in Chi-hyun elementary school in Seoul.

From these activities, I learned following two attitudes. One is ‘delicacy’ which is to analyze missions accurately, and the other is ‘cooperation and service-mind for customer’ that promote all members to lead for biggest goal in the group.

In this project, the Västervik Experience, the delicate and cooperative abilities can help it to be accomplished successfully. This is because the project needs to find credible partner and keep the relation with it interdependently. Also, my economic and business knowledge from university makes me to contribute to the project in terms of finance.

Position: Business Manager of Påryd Projektering

After a few years of working as a Business Manager at one of Sweden’s leading companies within marketing I now feel that I need a new challenge. The market area around Påryd is about to grow and there will be many possibilities to develop this company. A good challenge for me is to use these possibilities and form the company in a way that makes it possible to grow together with its surroundings.

Many people today think that we need bigger and more complex experiences to be inspired and motivated, me myself are of the meaning that any experience form who we become. Who we are represents how we work. My experiences and the kind person I represent, together with the personnel at Påryd Projektering, will mean a good asset for the future commissions that the company is standing in front of.

Name:Julia lind

Position:Business Manager of
Påryd Projektering
Born:1978
Education:Master of Science in
Business and Economics, Lund School
of Economics,Sweden

I was born in the rural area of Växjö but my family later on moved to Lund where I grew up and
eventually received a university degree in 2005. All of my summer holidays I spent with my relatives
in Växjö with its fabolous surroundings of huge forests that
encouraged me to become a dedicated member of Södra Skogsägarna. The devastating blow that the storm in 2004 brought on Påryd and a large part of Småland has caused a longterm severe impact in society at large both at an individual level and at a national level.Longterm solutions have to be created in order to restore the hope and ambition of the spirit of Småland. In my opinion the Påryd Projektering would serve as an efficient foundation of providing opportunities to develop local business and my intercontinental
knowledge will be useful in these circumstances.
After graduating from university ,I longed for a different experience and started looking for a position in nongovernmental organisations. As a result I held a position within the
Red Cross branch of Tanzania, where I gradually gained an extensive knowledge within the field of business as a business manager after having signed the two-year contract.Local government in Tanzania became a major issue in
business negotiations as well as the governmental officials when we,the employees of the Red cross,
provided the local store supplies with medical and nutritional goods.
Tanzania was a country that had been struck by a number of natural
disasters with a destroyed infrastructure as a result and the Chinese became the main entrepreneurs engineering the
reconstruction of the countryside. From this course of actions I learnt primarily to negotiate with the Chinese where the large amount of cross-cultural experiences made me aware of the importance of intercultural exchange in any successful business project. My application for
the business management position at the Påryd Projektering eventually brought to light all of my previous experience. However different in size and in almost any other aspect Tanzania and Påryd in Sweden will always remain different but the role of the business manager will give evidence of a number of similarities when it comes to dealing with local officials and by
and by the Chinese business project.Judging from my experience of intercultural business negotiations as well as considering local interests in any
business operation I am looking forward to take on the position as
a business manager in Påryd Projektering.

When I first met with Ella Svedin I was impressed by her visions for Påryd Projektering and her commitment to the Kalmar region business area. In my opinion Påryds Projektering have large potential for growth and together with business partners from China this will have an impact also on the county of Kalmar.

Prior to Påryd Projektering AB I held a position as Intranet Coordinator at Nordea Bank AB were focus was on marketing account products and coordinating the Investor Relation information. During this exciting period I learnt the importance of substantial information in business and how to marketing new products.

From a similar position in one of the largest projects in the cultural sector called Stockholm Cultural Capital of Europe 1998, I experienced the importance of good administration when quickly building up an organisation consisting of 120 people in only three month time. Meeting artists from all over the world coming to Stockholm to perform gave me experience of doing business with other cultures and in different languages. Keeping deadlines and agreements were important isues aswell as the ability to take quick decisions.

Trustful and reliable communication with the stakeholders is one key factor for success in all relations but even more nessesary when it comes to business development. With my experience in the fields of both marketing, communication and sociologhy I will do my best to take Påryd Projektering to the next level.
